You’re Going to Die. Here’s What to Do About It.
•
One thing life guarantees is death.
Every religion focuses on preparing us to live beyond this veil.
That question—what happens after death—was what I struggled with deeply as I considered leaving my religion and my long-held beliefs about becoming a God.
Until I asked myself this:
When has anyone ever truly benefited from ignorance in the long run?
Did ignorance keep me from some pain? Yes.
But did it cost me more in the long term? Absolutely.
Let me ask you this:
Should you stay bottled up out of fear of the afterlife?
If you don’t maximize your opportunities here—if you don’t combine experience, knowledge, and action—what makes you think you’ll suddenly do it there?
Our Best Chance at the Afterlife
If you’re stuck in your head, afraid to fully live…
If there is an afterlife, don’t you think you’ll carry that same mindset with you?
My great hope is that life goes on after death.
But thankfully, death isn’t here yet—and I have no control or knowledge of it beyond religious theories that have often held me back.
If I want my soul—or whatever part of me lives on—to thrive beyond this life, it seems my only real shot is to maximize the good I do here, the love I give here, the joy I feel here, and the knowledge I gain here.
But Religion Kept Me From…
Doing drugs. Becoming a bad person. Name a thousand things.
But here’s the test:
If something doesn’t benefit you in this life, why would it benefit you in the next?
My problem with religion is that it binds us to suppositions about an imaginary future.
If drugs don’t help you grow here, then don’t use them.
If drinking too much holds you back, then don’t drink too much.
But let that be your reason—not fear of the afterlife.
Because fear of the afterlife breeds superstition.
And superstition holds us back.
But What About God?
If you’re trying to please a God who’s holding you back from fully living—
From learning, from expanding, from experiencing—
Then what kind of God is that?
If He wants to limit you here, why wouldn’t He limit you there?
Maybe it’s time to let go of your traditional view of God.
Try connecting on a deeper level.
Maybe most things are okay.
Maybe you can live, and still have that deep, unshakable connection.
Then you’ll be truly free—not abstaining from things just because of fear, but because they don’t serve your growth here.
I love God.
The one who wants me to grow and learn and become more—here and beyond.
But the one who wants to keep me small?
Sounds more like the devil.
Preparing for Death
When you finish the day scrolling on your phone, distracted, avoiding effort or discomfort—
Do you really feel like you lived?
Was that a day you’ll remember?
Was that a day that moved you closer to your potential?
Probably not.
Now think about the days you got uncomfortable—
The ones where you did something hard, took real action, pushed your limits, felt the joy and the pain that comes with living boldly.
Those are the days that count.
Those are the days that prepare you for death.
Because life isn’t about comfort.
It’s about growth.
My new philosophy is this:
The only way to prepare for death is to live a life that’s too full to be stopped by it.
Why die young?
I mean—why live like you’re already dead?
Preparation for death doesn’t mean fear.
It means maximizing your opportunities now—while you still can.
Remember the old man who buried his treasure instead of increasing it?
He lost everything.
And it was given to the one who lived fully, who took risks, and multiplied what he had.
So what’s the path forward?
Start living a life so full—so alive—that death feels like a footnote, not a threat.
Conclusion
Your only chance at anything in the afterlife is to maximize your potential right now.
You can’t control what happens when you die—at least not today.
But you can control what happens today.
If tomorrow’s not guaranteed, why waste today worrying about it?
Because that worry will turn into regret—tomorrow—when you look back at today and know you didn’t give it your all.
Sow the seeds today you want to see grow tomorrow.
The only way to ensure you grow tomorrow is to grow today.
The only way to possibly maximize your potential in the afterlife
is to maximize your potential here.
Don’t fear death.
Live so death feels late to the party.
