How cultish are you and me? How do you know if you are in a cult or not?
When you walk into a store with and group of women in prairie dresses, you get very curious looks. Dad would say, “We are the normal ones.”
“You guys are in a cult” was something we laughed very hard about when I was in the FLDS. We thought that was insane to say. In our minds we were dead right. And maybe that right there is the definition of a cult- always dead right.
Anyone in a cult assumes they are the normal ones. Or at least the right ones.
What is interesting, the masses are often wrong too. So cults are easy to create. Perhaps the masses themselves are a bit of a cult at times.
We are all cultish to some degree. You and I have a very useful tool, to twist reasoning into justification of our desires; when we avoid the change reasoning demands, we change our reasoning.
I intend to study and write more about cults. In my opinion the definition of “Cult” is: When one person or a group of people believe in a cause or thing without any reason, often in spite of reasoning, or by changing their reasoning. This is not so simple as one might assume.
We all know that if Ford puts out a truck that has many problems, some people will die before the consider a Chevy and vice versa. That is cultish. When we don’t look for the maximum good. It is so deep in everything we do and think.
In some ways that may benefit us. If something is good and we stick around it thats great. It can also be our downfall.
In the minds of most humans, being right is valued above truth. I find this all over in myself especially.
