Only One Escape: Face Your Shadow

Deep within every person is a shadow of evil. A secret fascination with darkness. Why do you like true crime stories or gossiping about your neighbors wife’s secret affair? You may not want to admit it to yourself, but it is fascinating to you. You want more of it.

But of course you are far above any of those trifles yourself, or at least you would really like to think so.

“I don’t like being an adult.” Or are you burdened by adhering to societies standards?

The less you know about your shadow, the more dangerous it is. The more it secretly rules.

Your Childhood

What was acceptable in your early childhood? You started with your full range of emotions and desires and expressed them freely. That was the true you.

Perhaps you remember those days as being “free.”

With age you were required to push the dark things away. Society helped you become a person acceptable to them.

You put them into your shadow and hardly dare to look!

Now you are an adult and have to fit into society. In fact, you have become so trained to think along with society that you want others to also adhere to those standards.

Bringing Out Your Shadow

Next time you are really interested in a movie or even a real life situation that is dark, ask yourself why? Part of you is really interested.

Perhaps you will not even let the thought surface in your own mind about what you are really feeling. Give those feelings a little thought. In fact, talk to them. Ask them if they have been suppressed and what they really think.

If you think something terrible, something that might disgust you, accept that part of you may have been hidden within and lurking.

Start to feel yourself becoming more free. More dangerous, more independent, more courageous!

Yielding To Your Shadow

It is not appropriate to give your shadow free reign. Now that you have dug in and looked at your shadow, you understand what is within you and why you are fascinated by darkness. Now you have full liberty to guide your shadow.

When you do not understand your shadow it will all the sudden show in times of stress or even short facial expressions when you hear some bad news. For a second you will feel your shadow rising before stuffing it back into where even you cannot see it.

But if you understand your shadow, you will know exactly why you feel anger or some other dark emotion. Then you can simply talk with it and give it the understanding it needs.

Embrace Your Shadow

Even the most sainted people have a shadow. Often causing them to act in unexpected ways. Unexpected even to themselves.

Don’t be shy about your shadow. Acknowledge you have a dark side. You will be much more interesting and creative, feel far more free and then the light in you can truly shine! You will feel more genuine and find peace in your feelings.
