We are all constricted to certain limits by our own minds as well as reality. What or who controls you and keeps you down? Why can’t you become exactly what you want?
Jordan Peterson said: “How are going to adapt to a situation you won’t even admit to? So how could it be otherwise that for you to become everything you could be you have to embrace all of the catastrophe that life has to offer? Are you going to hide? Are you going to pretend?”
And I have to ask:
How are you going to admit to any situation if you won’t consider the possibility that you are wrong?
There is a simple discovery we must all make. One that many people would rather not see. From this discovery we can gain all the fulfillment that we seek every day. Seeing this will require a person to take responsibility for everything, but the joy they find will be greater than any price you pay.
I Was Brainwashed
I was born with a strict set of beliefs about the world. People tell me, “O you were brainwashed.” Coming out of that experience, peeling off the layer of blindness FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, it was so mind blowing that I could not help but search for more layers.
I could not stop being amazed. My thoughts were getting way ahead of my ability to reason them out.
You see, being brainwashed may have a simple definition: your beliefs don’t align with reality.
But the realization of that made my mind go crazy. Because no one on earth can ever do anything outside what they believe in their own minds.
Are you brainwashed?
Physics tells us rules of the atoms that are organized in different forms.
It is amazing how many people say someone else needs to have an open mind, only to proceed defending a very closed minded belief of their own.
And I have to ask myself how often I do that. I have to ask the question about religion, money, status, power, and all the other things that I simply assume to be true without even thinking about them.
And which ones are holding me back. Which ones are holding you back?
What Is Possible?
“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” -Jesus
How can you conceptualize anything you want to receive if your mind places limits on your desires?
“Carl Young points out that religion is designed to keep people from having religious experiences, and I think that’s really true.” -Jordan Peterson
Following a helmed in set of acceptable desires may keep a person from ever experiencing the full scope of faith and the spiritual experience of following the highest path. You will never see the burning bush.
If someone tells you your path, it’s impossible to have the strength of desire you will have if you follow the path calling you. God is calling you to a purpose and when you ignore it, you hurt yourself.
Examples Of Where You Could Be Brainwashed
I could list all my beliefs and declare that when you disagree, you are brainwashed.
And rightly you wouldn’t accept that.
But the reality is, most of us are hardwired to think that way without recognition. I catch myself doing it all the time. When a subject comes up, we automatically turn to what we are familiar with. It takes a conscious effort to open the mind without bias.
When someone says something, it is extremely tempting to pipe in and speak our opinion. But maybe it is better to wait and see if they say something we could consider.
But first that takes having a mindset that there is a possibility we are wrong. Sounds easy but it is hard. For me it is.
Even in the way we do things, we just do it by “how we always have.” Why the heck did they not have cars sooner? Because their brains thought it was “impossible.” It is funny now. Good chance a ton more things are possible.
Everyone Is Brainwashed
“Everyone is the victim of someone’s brainwashing.” -Lex Friedman
Elon Musk, who runs a few billion dollar companies took a mega u turn on his child changing genders. From my perspective that is another example of brainwashed. Really.
Suppose you are someone that gets really upset over something like transgender people, on either side. Ask yourself how hard would it be for either side to look at it emotionlessly? I can see both sides fuming and raging.
My point is, that is how we are in almost all the little things too. We just think we know. I am the same way. It is hard to look at it from a different perspective. It usually requires some serious pain for people to open up to another idea.
Tradition is way more serious than we might assume. But how valuable would it be if we understand the logic behind those traditions? If we could fully comprehend it without up close experience, the pendulum would not have to swing so far both ways.
It usually takes some serious pain one way, and then the other before we can see the why in the traditions of our forefathers. And I guess that also takes out some of the errors they may have made. No way are we free from a damn lot of errors too, and we better not condemn our forefathers past while simultaneously standing on some moral high ground.
The Value Of Questioning ANYTHING
A tradition? Ask why and really get into it. Hell, try going the other way and maybe you will better understand. Fuck around and find out. Maybe your ideas really are enlightened. Or maybe they are totally off. Ask the questions. Run the simulator. Read and think. If there is a deep question bothering you, keep asking about it until you better understand. That is wrestling with God. You don’t have all the answers and simultaneously wrestle with God. God is calling you on a path and if you follow it, perhaps you will learn something more.
I have never ever been disappointed by asking a question. I once was brainwashed more than I had ever supposed. You know what kept me from asking certain questions? Fear. You are afraid of going astray. If that is ever the case, ask. Look stupid. Go to hell and maybe you will have a better chance at comprehending heaven. Like Jordan said, “How could it be otherwise that for you to become everything you could be you have to embrace all of the catastrophe that life has to offer?” YOU HAVE TO EMBRACE ALL THE CATASTROPHE LIFE HAS TO OFFER. Including the risk of going to hell, looking stupid, and having to go through poor times.
It is really hard to make that decision. But it is the only path. You cannot ever get something without paying the price. And sometimes the price is going to hell for awhile. And maybe after you do, you will find out the whole time you were in hell, and if you keep facing the tragedy it could get better and better.
I have to go do this now. It is a big task to face the tragedies of questioning the truth. But I know it is the only way I can grow.
